Become a sponsor of the Boston/ Cambridge EMCF 2014!

We’re very excited for our festival this year — full of amazing performers, including: Kristen Schaal, John Hodgman, Nick Thune, Wyatt Cenac, Chelsea Peretti, Daniel Kitson, Bridget Everett, Jon Benjamin, Janelle James, a special Star Talk Live guest hosted by Bill Nye the Science Guy, Mehran Kheghani, Ken Reid and more!

We have lots of weird, fun sponsorship opportunities for companies (or individuals). A recent study, conducted by me this morning while day-dreaming, suggests that our festival is the number one way to reach 18 – 49-year-olds with disposable annual incomes of $60,000,000 per household! How do you convince a 20-year-old engineering student to buy YOUR company’s helicopter or iPhone App? By becoming a sponsor of the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival.

Are you a wonderful company or person? Then maybe you’d like to chose an item from our oddball sponsorship menu — which ranges from “quite affordable” to “pleasantly expensive.” Email juliesmithclem@gmail.com if you’re interested and she can provide you with our full rate card with all our sponsorship options. For now, here’s a few:

$100 – Special thanks in our festival program under the heading “barely charitable organizations.”

$500 – Your logo will appear on LOGO JOHNNY (a guy that will walk around with logos on him – 15 sponsors max – at a minimum of 1 show, more shows if we get enough sponsors).

$1,000 (includes 2 VIP tickets to one show) — Before a show of your choice, two MIMES will casually mime your company’s mission statement to audience as they arrive.

$2,500 (includes 4 VIP tickets to one show) — We will prominently display items with your logo in a big trash can.

$2,500 (includes 4 VIP tickets to one show) — Eugene will talk about your company for 30 seconds at the beginning of one of our shows — he can say anything he wants!

$10,000 (includes 2 VIP tickets to every show or 8 VIP tickets to any one show) — Official Sponsor of our VERY SPECIAL AFTER PARTY.

$10,000 (includes 2 VIP tickets to every show or 8 VIP tickets to any one show) — A banner that says “X Company paid $10,000 for you to see this crappy banner we bought for $340.”

We also offer $250 half-page ads in our program and $450 full-page ads in our program, along with several other sponsorship options. So far, our sponsors include one of my beloved childhood record stores — Newbury Comics, the delicious Otto Pizza and famous Cuntwarbler Whiskey. Will you join the ranks of these esteemed companies?

Chris O’Dowd + Jon Ronson added to 826NYC 10-Year-Anniversary Show + Discount Code!

On March 5th, 826NYC will celebrate 10 years of tutoring and creative writing workshops for the children of New York City, some of whom might go on to become president, an investigative reporter, or a doctor who is very good at creative writing! To mark the occasion we’re putting on a show at Town Hall in New York called One-On-One that will feature conversations between paired artists: WNYC’s Kurt Andersen and documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, British ex-pat comedian John Oliver and Time Magazine’s Coolest Person of 2013 (this is true) Questlove, New York Times journalist Anand Giridharadas and Russian LGBT activist and journalist Masha Gessen, author Jon Ronson and Irish actor Chris O’Dowd, Fred Armisen and the Audience, hosted by Sarah Vowell and I, along with music by Robyn Hitchcock. All proceeds support 826NYC’s free writing and literacy programs. Get tickets by clicking on the following words — I am a good person who wants to help kids while enjoying a wonderful, unique show.

Also, you can use the discount code of 826NYC for 25% off regular tickets. There are also VIP tickets available for $250, which include great seats and a post-show meet-and-greet. If you get the $250 tickets, feel free to come up to me at the meet-and-greet, give me a hug, and then whisper, “You’re welcome.” I think that’s fair.

Sarah Vowell and I are hosting the 10 year anniversary celebration of 826NYC, the free writing and tutoring center that is behind a secret bookcase at the Superhero Supply Company. The show will be at Town Hall on March 5th and feature one-on-one live conversations between various artists, including Ken Burns and Kurt Andersen, John Oliver and Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson,” Anand Giridharadas and Masha Gessen, Fred Armisen and the Audience, along with music by Robyn Hitchcock. All proceeds support 826NYC’s free writing and literacy programs. More guests TBA. February Tour Dates!

I’m going on tour in February. Opening for me will be the awesome, Austin-based poet Derrick Brown. Here’s a nice thing the New York Times (still the paper of record! Sorry, Rush Limboob!) said about Derrick’s writing, “…a rekindling of faith in the weird, hilarious, shocking, beautiful power of words.”

We’ll be in NC (Asheville and Carrboro), GA, KY, OH (Lakewood and Columbus), Pittsburgh and Ithaca, NY! Click on the crappy screen grab of my tour dates to go to my Live Shows page where there’s more info and links to tickets.

StarTalk Live: I, Robot (Part 2)

Here’s Part 2 of StarTalk Live with Neil, Stephen Gorevan of Honeybee Robotics, W. Kamau Bell, Jason Sudeikis and me:

New episode of Star Talk Live about robotics is now up!

From Star Talk Radio’s website:

Robots can’t laugh, but the crowd never stopped when StarTalk Live went back to the Bell House for the 6th Annual Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival. Guests included Stephen Gorevan of Honeybee Robotics, the makers of robotic equipment used on NASA’s Mars Rovers, along with comedians W. Kamau Bell and Jason Sudeikis. In Part 1, host Neil deGrasse Tyson leads a conversation about robots and space exploration, from Voyager 1 to the Mars Opportunity, Spirit and Curiosity Rovers and beyond. You’ll learn what actually defines a robot, why some robots are built to mimic humans and others are built to perform certain tasks, and the benefits and drawbacks of using
robots vs. people. You’ll also find out about the New Horizons mission to Pluto, Robonaut 2 on the ISS, and the plans to send a nuclear powered robotic mole to Jupiter’s moon, Europa, to dig through its icy surface to explore the ocean beneath.

Thanksgiving weekend show in Northampton, MA + tour dates in DC, Hamden, Providence & Portland!

I’m doing a few tour dates in the north east. The first one is in Northampton, MA at the Academy of Music on 11/30 with Mehran Khaghani and Zach Livingston.

I can’t wait to return to Western Mass and joke around about Thornes Market, the PVTA and Bart’s Ice Cream (where I used to work! — the one in Northampton (not Amherst) — that’s now Pizzaria Sam’s — that’s probably not what it’s called, but that’s what I decided to call it based on Google street view).

I’m also doing four tour dates with Kurt Braunohler and Derrick Brown:

Dec 4, Washington, DC, sixth & i
Dec 5, Hamden, CT, Spaceland Ballroom
Dec 6, Providence, RI, Columbus Theater
Dec 8, Portland, ME, Port City Music Hall
