Here’s a little info on each show. We’ll be adding more people to shows as it gets closer to the date:
Invite Them Up was a weekly show that Bobby Tisdale (America’s greatest loveable clown-like wonder) and I used to do at the now defunct Rififi. It was a really fun show and we put out a three disc set on Comedy Central Records years ago.
Star Talk is a science radio show that is hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, the director of the Hayden Planetarium, and someone who retains a suspicious amount of information about many, many subjects. For the last few years I’ve occasionally co-hosted Star Talk in the studio and from that came the idea of trying it live. We did the first Star Talk Live at our festival in September in Brooklyn and loved doing it. This is our first live one outside of New York. Here’s an episode we did with Scott Adsit, Kristen Schaal and Alan Alda(!). The Seattle taping will feature Neil, me, Paul F. Tompkins and some special guests.
Talent Show is a themed monthly variety show hosted by Elna Baker (This American Life) and Kevin Townley . It’s my favorite show to do in New York, because it’s genuinely unpredictable and super-fun. We did it at our Brooklyn festival and it was named the “Most memorable show/ descent into madness” of 2011 by Time Out New York.
Lastly, Pretty Good Friends is the weekly show that Julie Smith, Caroline Creaghead and I have been doing in Brooklyn for the last six years. This festival came out of us producing the weekly show. We’ve started touring Pretty Good Friends. Last year we did an east coast tour, a run of shows in London and just got back from San Francisco (here’s a review of the San Francisco show). I’m very excited Bobcat Goldthwait is coming to Seattle. His sets in San Francisco were awesome. Here’s a write-up in Rolling Stone about a bit he did with Ben Gibbard.
3/4/12
